3 Ways To Attract Qualified Applicants Online

How does your company reach qualified applicants when you have a job opening?

If you’re like many employers, you still rely on traditional methods like job boards, radio ads, and word-of-mouth referrals. But if you want to reach and hire the best talent in your industry, it’s just as important to “market” to potential applicants online as it is to customers and clients.

Here are three ways you can start using online channels to reach the right applicants for your company.

1. Publish recruitment-focused site content

When qualified applicants search for job openings, your site needs to show up in the results. The best way to make this happen is with in-depth content about your employment opportunities and company culture.

Build out your “careers” or “employment” page and show what it’s like to work at your company and what kind of work environment applicants can expect. Beyond the text that explains your mission, values, and other qualities that make your company unique, you should also include plenty of visual content.

On our site, for example, we include career insight videos for each of our teams that explain their daily responsibilities and give some insight on our company culture.

The more information you provide, the more comfortable will feel about contacting you.

2. Highlight company culture on social media

Many job seekers turn to social media platforms like Facebook and LinkedIn to learn more about the companies they’re considering in their search. This means that if you’re not already active on social media, it’s time to start.

It’s also worth mentioning that as you build your following on social media, your ability to reach applicants grows exponentially. Highlighting employment opportunities next to photos that showcase a great work environment encourages your followers to pass those opportunities onto their job-seeking friends and family.

3. Run targeted ad campaigns

Depending on how competitive you want to be with your recruitment marketing, you may also choose to run paid ads on platforms like Google AdWords, Facebook, Twitter, or other popular websites.

If you’ve never run ads on social media, the idea of spending money on free platforms might not sound like a good one – but thanks to amount of user data these platforms collect, they have precise targeting for advertisers like you.

On LinkedIn in particular, the advertising options are perfect for recruitment. You can target your ads based on job title, industry, skills, degrees, and more – meaning that you’re reaching the exact applicants you want when they’re actively browsing a career-based social network.
